Are there any 20 year old games that you play now? Anyone else?

Once in a while I play a level of Descent, but that's only 15 years old, there's a Lode Runner clone that I haven't tried yet and the Elite clone I installed has seen less then 5 hours of gameplay.

I predict that 10 years from now, probably less, you'll not be interested in playing Guild Wars anymore.

I may not buy Guild Wars 2 if:

1. There is a load of grind.
2. A lack of PvE content for groups with 8 or so players.
3. No mesmers.
4. If you can switch skills or skillbars anytime or you can bring unlimited/a lot of skills at once.
5. Or other bs stuff from other stupid games.
6. If the GW2 Anet staff shows they are against PvE balance.

If any of those are with GW2, I'll stick with GW1.

Definitely speak for yourself. I still play the game because I continue to find certain aspects of it challenging and fun. I definitely don't play it for titles (which are pretty absurd, other than those that actually impact gameplay) or for my guild.

My purchase of GW2 is not a given, it will be judged on its own merits.

You kind of had a small shred of a point. Guess your statement wasn't completely fallacious after all.

How recent was that and can you provide a link?

Nice attitude you have there. Are you like that in real life?

And if so, knowing that the game doesn't even start without a running internet connection , wouldn't you like to have the option of being able to still run around the game offline ? One can finish the main story line alone . I would love to know if they can make the game to run offline and give you the feel that regardless of its nature , you still own the game years after the servers went down. I mean its still a game that we love. And as it is , at least for me not knowing much of an usual MMO's last years behavior its still something that you can't keep on a shelf.
I think the question can be answered with a question. Did they make Tabula Rasa or Auto Assault available for OFFLINE play when they shut those servers down? Nope is the answer and I'm 99.9% sure they won't do it for GW either.

Can Tabula Rasa and Auto Assault be compared with the success the Guild Wars chapters had and still have?

Whats wrong with that?

Diablo 2 IS a great game, one of the best RPG ever made. There are still 30-40k people playing today at any given time you log on, 11 years later.

Don't forget how much of a hit GW was... sure D2 probably outsold GW, but D2 hit 4 million copies in 2001. 1999 to 2001 is two years. GW came out in 2005 and in 2008 (3 years later) they announced 5 million copies sold. Thats not exact player amount of course, but it still shows popularity.

Sure GW has probably dropped below a million, but so has D2 over the years.

Diablo 2 is one of those games you stop playing for a while and then come back and play again and remember the good old days and still kick some ass. GW is the same way if you play it right.

IMO, I see GW in 2020, still there, about as active as Diablo 2 is today. If anyone agrees with me, quote my post and show that you agree.

The original EQ2 was awesome. Level 1-50 is still worth playing today, of course staying on the original content (Shattered Lands). Every expansion made after the initial release sucked ass, and TSO was the final nail in the coffin for me when they took all the shit I worked for in Level 80 to build a great character and threw it out the window, introducing the raid armor shit that came in several different tiers, which inevitably invited the worst possible attitudes (elitism) demanding Everyone should group with this new raid armor. The armor was only obtainable if you grinded the same dungeons over and over every say 24/7/365. Being the casual gamer, this was it for me after 2 long years of playing. Cut the subscription in mid 2009, haven't looked back since. Heard about the new expansion coming, and rumors it brought more grind your-ass-off armor, and raise level cap to 90. I smiled and then lol'd IRL.

I guess that was my off-topic tl;dr QFT agreeing with you about eq2 failing.

Success of the past does not equate to revenue of the future of an old game. Facts are when Tabula Rasa and Auto Duel no longer became profitable they shut them down. This is NCsoft not Anet and NCsoft will have the final say how long GW stays afloat. It won't be long after the exodus to GW2. There's already been a mass exodus and more and more are leaving as the game becomes boring and unsatisfying. I haven't played it in nearly 3 months now as it's just a waste of time and there's nothing worth doing anymore except GRIND and I can do that in any game and get a hellofalot more out of them than some silly vanity item or title.

I responsible for 4 copies of GW in that 5 millions (P, F, NF, ETON).

The 4 millions of D2 was ONLY D2, and not LoD. You can't really compare the two. Besides, the offline-playable nature of D2 makes the game pirate-able. I know people in my country pirated it. I, too, did. So for D2's popularity, the sale-figure doesn't really mean much imo.

You can't pirate GW. I think that's all that's needed to be said.

Yes..yes.. I read your post. I understand that.

But honestly, how has D2 been up this long? Sure Blizz has WoW to milk crazy profit from (monthly fee and all) but Blizz doesn't even run D2 anymore besides feed it a patch every once in a blue moon, it sits on AT&T servers, how can either of these big time companies possibly see D2 as cost effective to run servers for it on battle net. anymore? It's not even Pay to Play as we know too. I just need help seeing this. Maybe Blizzard really does feed a few million here and there to AT&T keep D2 up their servers, who knows what really goes on.

I think GW is very much still strong, I see new people getting GW daily. GW2 will be totality different. Like WoW is still strong, I see no reason why GW wouldn't be the same.

I for one still have alot of content and stuff I need to finish in GW.

GW player for 3 years now and I still enjoy it.

D2 isn't an ONLINE only playing game is why. It was produced as a solo offline action rpg game with online mp aspects. I never played it online in my D2 life. Plus D2 has a key thing LONGEVITY because you are ever evolving even when you make level 99 (which takes a hellofalongtime unless you cheat online). There are so many loot variables with that horadaric cube I don't think anyone would ever see them all in a lifetime.

GW you see it all in just a few days or a weeks play in every chapter. It's too easy and simple to play and see the whole world and whole story of GW in a very short time and then everything becomes just redundant for no other reason than grinding for some silly meaningless title or some vanity skin that has no more power than a collectors weapon.

So that's the big difference and why D2 has lasted so long. I'm still playing it after all these years looking for new SETS of gear (get all the pieces and it makes you even more powerful).

GW success wasn't really the game itself as much as it was an MMO with no monthly fee to challenge WOW and EQ and the rest for those casual players that don't have the money to burn a month/year on them. It's a nice little MMO tonka toy, but, it's nothing major or ever has been really. And it certainly doesn't have longevity like the others do.

You can bank that if GW had of had a monthly fee it would have never been as successful as it was and I do not expect NCsoft to make it an offline game if/when/should they decide to pull the plug.
